3 Signs That You Have A Water Leak
There are several clear signs that you should look out for so that you can spot a water leak before any serious damage is caused. Often you will have to call a professional leak detection service in order to find out the true cause of the issue, however today I will be showing how you can spot the signs that you have a water leak.
1: Damage To Paint Or Wallpaper
Walls with damaged or blistering paint or wallpaper is often a sign of a leak. Blisters in paint and wallpaper occur when water gets between the paint or wallpaper and the wall and loosen the bond between the two. Steam from showers is a possible cause but it can take a very long time for you to notice the effects, generally this isn’t what causes the damage. If you have recently painted your bathroom and you see this kind of damage, it is more than likely that you have a leak.
2: Damage To The Walls Themselves
Another sign that you have a water leak is if one or more of your walls is stained or even warped without any obvious reason. When plasterboard is exposed to a significant amount of moisture it begins to get soft, bubble and warp which can lead to pieces falling off. When the leak reaches the ceiling, the wall will begin to sag, sometimes even leaking some of the water that has built up. If you have this issue, you will need to call a plumber immediately. The leak will have to found and fixed and then the plasterboard will have to be replaced.
3: Stains On The Ceiling
If, like many people, you have a bathroom upstairs, look out for any discolouration of the ceiling in the room below. If you notice any unusual stains it is likely that there is a leak in the bathroom above. The occasional wet floor isn’t enough to cause this kind of damage. However, as water travels, it’s possible that the leak is from another area. Calling a professional and having a thermal imaging leak detection performed will help you get to the bottom of the problem before it ruins your house.
